BGAN updates and discounts

July 19, 2011

A variety of discounts are available from different suppliers.  Contact info (at) humaninet.org if you would like more information.

  • Through December 2011, Vizada offers $1000 of free airtime (good for 60 days) for activation of new accounts.
  • A $500 rebate from Vizada for purchase and service activation of a BGAN ($1599) and IsatPhone ($650).   The rebate is applied to IsatPhone service, which is $14.00/month, 88 cents/minute for voice ($1.05/minute to cell phones) and 44 cents for a text message.  Thus your IsatPhone service is covered or a considerable time, depending on usage.  A 12-month service plan is required.
  • The IsatPhone is available for $650 through HumaniNet.   Please see post below.
  • Sabre BGANs are again available for $1599.

In addition, there are several used BGANs for sale by different suppliers for as low at $1200 (Hughes 9201).   These BGANs have been tested and many have had minimal use, some with warranties.   For emergency preparedness, any of these would serve well.

Papua New Guinea users:  a partner in PNG notified us that ” every BGAN unit must be licensed with NICTA as Mobile Earth Stations, no later than October 29, 2011 or be subject to prosecution and seizure of equipment as gazetted in numerous times in the Post Courier & National (two main newspapers of PNG.)”   Not sure if this applies to satellite phones.  Contact us if you would like more information.

BGAN plans are available at $6.55/megabyte with no additional monthly fee.

For details, contact us at info (at) humaninet.org.
